Season II Week 1 Photographic Challenges:  Shadows

Alfred Steigliz said:  "Wherever there is light, one can photograph."  And Sir Francis Bacon said:  "In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present."  From February 27 to March 6 we took our cameras and eyes outside to discover interesting and unusual shadows.  And this is what we found.

Anne from Vernon sent us these.  She admits to a little Airedale bias.  Guess which one is her favourite?

Richard from New Westminster hunted around the Quay for these:

Doreen found shadows in Tucson and Phoenix...one also happened to be a zig zag

Lois and Larry took two cameras and a tripod to look for shadows.  Look what they found.  Ellen would be jealous.

Sue H's shadows were found in a wintery landscape.

Last Friday Ruth in Vancouver heard the weather forecast for the week, rushed out and snapped these photos and says she has not seen the sun since!  Now that deserves applause.

Gail from Lone Butte found some lovely shadows in her snowy landscape.  She clearly had some sun this week.

Last,but definitely not least from Dan in Vancouver who also says he would have had more images if the sun would just shine soon...

I think I have everyone's shadow images.  If I missed someone's photograph, apologies.  Given the uncooperative weather for this theme we have done well.  I was going to take a picture of my shadow toasting us all with a glass of wine tonight, but alas I find all my tripods ended up in Canada, as did my assistant Gary tonight.

Let's vote for our favourite SHADOW image.  Once you review all of the images in this blog, email me your choice by Tuesday March 11 with the name of the photographer and describe the photos so I can correctly tally the results.  The prize?  A good all day feeling from your fellow participants.  The winning images (s) will be announced on the blog, by email and on Facebook.

For week 2 of Season II lets zero in on doorways, windows and other openings (think gates, arches etc), going outside to photograph and selecting 6 of your best images to submit by Thursday March 13, 2014.
